When will you be referred to the Gynaecology clinic听

Your GP will refer you to Gynaecology if they suspect that the symptoms you are experiencing could be due to a Gynaecological cancer.听

The vast majority of people who are seen in Gynaecology clinic will not have cancer; however it is important to attend your appointment for a full assessment.听听

Your clinic appointment may take 2-3 hours so that all the necessary tests can be carried out. For more information on what these tests may include, visit 鈥�Tests/investigations which may take place鈥�.听

Typical care pathway

You will be seen in our clinic, where our Gynaecological Team will undertake an assessment by conducting investigations (these could include an ultrasound scan, hysteroscopy, blood tests and/or biopsy of tissue). The Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) Co-ordinator collates the information on all patients who have abnormal results from clinic, then guides and drives the route of the pathway communicating regularly with the patient and the rest of the team.听

Further to your test results being received, they will be discussed at the Salisbury local Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meeting & the Poole Cancer Centre meeting, whereby the whole team meet to discuss the result for patients who may need further intervention and plan a pathway for treatment. Please also feel free to ask any questions you may have.听

The patient will then be given their results at a Clinic Appointment with a Gynaecologist and Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), to fully explain the diagnosis and to discuss their treatment pathway. For information on the treatment options for ovarian cancer, please visit 鈥�Treatment options鈥�.听听

If you are comfortable to, we recommend you bring a family member, friend or carer with you to appointments as there can be a lot of information to process.听听听

After your treatment has finished, you will be put on a supported self management follow up programme, so we can monitor your progress. Please visit Ongoing care for more information.听听

Finding Gynaecology outpatients department

By car: Enter the hospital site via Entrance B. Park in car park 8. Follow the signs to the Sarum Entrance. The Gynaecology clinic is located to the left before the Sarum Entrance, next to the Breast Unit. Accessed by steps or sloped path.听

By bus: Alight at Main Entrance (third stop). Follow the signs to the Sarum Entrance & exit the building. Turn left & the Gynaecology clinic is located along the path & to right, the next to the Breast Unit. Accessed by steps or sloped path.听

If you enter the hospital at the Main Entrance (Level 3), follow the signs to All Outpatient Departments.听

Getting to Pathology

Our Pathology Department is along the hospital corridor on Level 3 of the North building.

By car:听

Park in car park 8 and enter the hospital on Level 2 near the Springs Restaurant. Head up the stairs or lift, to Level 3 and go towards the Main Entrance. Pathology is along the hospital corridor, very close to the Main Entrance 鈥� you can follow signs to find it.听

If you have a disabled badge there is disabled parking by the Main Entrance and also near the Level 2 entrance by Springs Restaurant.听

By bus:鈥痩eave the bus at the Main Entrance bus stop, enter the hospital here. Go straight forward, at the end turn right on the main corridor to find the Pathology area on your left. This is also where you will find the blood test department reception.听

Getting to the Radiology Department

CT and MRI-1 Scanner听

Our MRI-1 Scanner can be found on Level 3 in the Main Hospital corridor, follow signs to 鈥楥T & MRI Scanner鈥�.鈥�

By car: Enter the hospital site at Entrance A. Park in car park 8 at the rear of the hospital. Enter the hospital at the Springs Entrance and head to Level 3, then follow signs to the 鈥楥T & MRI Scanner鈥�. 听

By bus: Leave the bus at the Springs Entrance (second stop). Enter the hospital at the Springs Entrance and head to Level 3, then follow signs to the 鈥楥T & MRI Scanner鈥�.听

If you need an MRI:听听

We have two MRI Scanners which are located at opposite ends of the Hospital site.鈥� Please check you appointment letter carefully to see which scanner your scan is booked for as it is about 10 minutes鈥� walk between the two scanners.听听

Our MRI-1 Scanner can be found on Level 3 in the Main Hospital corridor, follow signs to 鈥楥T & MRI Scanner鈥�.鈥�

Our MRI-2 Scanner can be found in the Central building and is down the corridor from the Day Surgery Unit.听听
