As one of the 169 hospitals/trusts listed in the National Hip Fracture Database 2024, we would be grateful if you could treat this as a Freedom of Information request and provide the following details for a 12-month period:

We understand that implant costs may vary slightly depending on size or configuration. An approximate or average per-patient cost for each implant is perfectly acceptable.

Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS)

Procedure: Internal fixation of hip fractures using a sliding hip screw system (commonly extracapsular, but may include other fracture types, intracapsular).

• What is the most commonly used implant for this procedure at your hospital?

• Approximately how many of these procedures were performed in a 12-month period?

• What is the average implant cost per patient during that period?

1. DHS from Stryker
2. 117 procedures performed in 2024-25

Question Number 2:
Short Intramedullary Femoral Nail

Procedure: Internal fixation of femoral fractures using a short intramedullary nail (e.g. for unstable intertrochanteric or subtrochanteric fractures).

• What is the most commonly used implant for this procedure?

• Approximately how many of these procedures were performed in a 12-month period?

• What is the average implant cost per patient during that period?

2. Unable to answer - no specific code for this as would use same procedure code as the open reduction DHS that has already been given

Distal Radius ORIF (Plate and Screws)

Procedure: Open reduction and internal fixation of distal radius fractures.
